Dr. Wall’s Health Tips
I am a proponent of using a good multivitamin as an insurance policy against micronutrient deficiencies. Studies have shown that up to 80% of Americans are deficient in at least one or more critical nutrients that are necessary for health. These include vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and phytonutrients. In fact a recent medical study in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease showed that Alzheimer’s patients were often deficient in Vitamin A and the antioxidants Lycopene, Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Vitamin E Tocopherols Studies have shown that individuals with osteoporosis may have deficiencies in Vitamin D, Calcium, Vitamin K and Boron. These are just a few examples of nutrient deficiencies that can impact your health. Eating organic and choosing the right foods as we’ve previously discussed will go a long way to prevent nutrient deficiencies. But as many people don’t obtain the 5 to 9 servings of recommended amounts of healthy vegetables and fruits, it is my strong opinion that most everyone benefits from a good multivitamin. My personal favorite is a one-a-day multivitamin called One Multivitamin that is a convenient once a day dose and is highly packed with essential nutrients. I also recommend a good Fish Oil ( EPA/ DHA ) supplement for most individuals.
Omegagenics 1000 supports heart health, enhancing brain health during fetal development and in young children, enhancing healthy skin, lowering triglycerides, and potentially improving certain mental health conditions including depression. Recent studies have questioned the health benefits of fish oil. It is my opinion that these studies are inaccurate due to the reasons that follow. Most fish oils are produced in the ethyl ester form. I recommend that you purchase fish oils only in the triglyceride form which is more stable and better absorbed.
Important Note: All Fish Oil should ideally be delivered overnight IF the weather is hot. Most fish oils found on the shelves of retail stores have been shipped with no consideration of outside temperature during the delivery time. In the hot months this fish oil can become oxidized and rancid during shipping and, if ingested, can cause more harm than good. Because I live in the south, I order my fish oil only in the winter and usually purchase 12 bottles ( so I only have a one time overnight charge). A healthy gut is critical for improving wellness as the gut microbiome is involved in most health conditions. It is important to review all the information in the Gut Microbiome section where I discussed in some detail the importance of maintaining gut health and treating dysbiosis and leaky gut. Remove pathogens.

***I encourage you to have your Vitamin D levels checked by your health care practitioner. This will allow you to better tailor the amount you require. There are varying opinions as to optimum levels. I use ideal blood levels as 40 ng/ml to 60 ng/ml. Levels under 30 are considered low with the goal being optimum levels as described. If your tested levels are currently within the optimum level no additional supplementation is needed.
