WELCOME
Hello. My name is Dr. David Wall. I am a medical doctor who has been interested and involved in the fields of functional medicine, longevity medicine and preventative health since 1996. My journey into these areas has been a very personal one, beginning with my own health issues.
MY STORY
At age 29 I was completing my post medical school residency training. I had been very active and healthy up to that point in my life. In my third year of residency training, I developed what seemed, at the time, to be a viral illness. However, unlike most viral illnesses in a young healthy adult, this did not quickly resolve as expected. Instead, symptoms of general malaise, severe lack of energy, brain fog, palpitations and a myriad of other symptoms persisted. My days consisted of battling through a day of work, returning home and collapsing in bed. Life was truly a struggle. Over the course of the next two years, I was seen by an extensive array of medical specialists, but no one was able to provide a definitive diagnosis, much less any effective treatments. For several years, I lived a limited, barely functional life. However, my fortune was to change. I came upon a medical doctor in my community who was knowledgeable in the benefits of utilizing high dose nutrient therapies to treat chronic illness. I had never previously taken vitamins or any other nutrients as this was considered a waste of money by the medical establishment at that time. I remember being told by one physician “You’ll have expensive pee” but that’s about all you can expect to achieve from going down this path. But as conventional medical care offered no benefits, I continued to follow this nutrient based program and, over time, I began to respond. While I wasn’t cured, my health took a major positive turn. This positive response was enough to spark a recognition that there was an entire area of medicine of which I was previously unaware that can positively impact people’s health in remarkable ways. Over the years, this form of medicine has gone by numerous names from alternative to holistic medicine from integrative medicine to now known as functional medicine. The commonality is that this medical approach focuses on supporting and enhancing the body’s own inborn mechanisms of healing by using primarily nutritional and lifestyle strategies. This was the beginning of a 25-year personal journey in which I studied and learned from experts in the fields of nutrition, lifestyle medicine, functional medicine, longevity medicine and preventative health about the true foundations of health. I have continued to apply these principles to my own health. While I can’t state I’ve achieved complete remission of every symptom, I achieved a level of well-being over time that I had never expected. In 1997 I co-authored a book “Living Longer Living Stronger and feeling good about it” ( now out of print) with my uncle who was an 83 year old cardiologist at that time. He went on to live to 99 years old and remained healthy in both mind and body his entire life.
MOTIVATION
My motivation to create this website began with my children. Initially, I decided to provide a written resource for my family to take advantage of the knowledge I’ve gained over the last 25 plus years in pursuing my own health goals. As I was creating and recording this information, though, I recognized that this powerful information should be available and utilized by every person interested in optimizing their health and longevity. So my goal of providing valuable health information expanded beyond my family to providing a website that offers a lifetime resource for a long, healthy life for anyone interested in achieving this goal.
GOAL
Through the years I have had the satisfaction of assisting others in reaching their wellness goals. It is with this knowledge gained by helping myself and others that I have created this website. The information and resources provided will enable you the opportunity to maximize your health now and optimize your chance to live a long, extended healthy life. It is a gift I have happily given to my family and now to you.
DEDICATION
This site is dedicated to the three most influential people in my medical journey and my life.
My mother. At age92 , my mother lives by herself, drives, and plays mahjong weekly with her friends (all younger ). She is an example of how to live an extended, healthy life with gusto by caring and generosity toward her family and friends and remaining involved and interested in people and issues important to her.
My father passed at age 87. Friendship was the cornerstone of his life. He positively impacted all those he called friend and their lives were enriched by his friendship. With his infectious personality, he was a testament to the importance in longevity of creating strong bonds with others. He will be remembered for generations by those he touched.
My uncle, Dr. Norman Wall. Norman was a role model, a mentor and a friend to me. He was my co-author of the book pictured here “Living Longer, Living Stronger”. I consider him the “poster child” for longevity medicine. He lived a life of physical and mental vitality to the age of 99. He practiced health and lifestyle medicine before it was in vogue swimming daily, eating healthy, taking an afternoon one hour “siesta” and focusing throughout his life on his passion for medicine.
